HYALURONIC ACID: NATURAL OR CHEMICAL?

🕑 4 minutes

A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE ARTICLE FOR BUSY READERS :

✔️ Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in our body, present since birth !

✔️ The champions - those who have it the most - are babies !

✔️Throughout history, the hyaluronic acid used in skincare was obtained from various sources, including rooster combs. Cock-a-doodle-doo at Novexpert ? Never ! We promise that we are 100% vegan !

✔️ The hyaluronic acid in Novexpert products comes from a natural and "clean" process using biotechnology and with the help of good bacteria.

THE SECRET OF BABY SOFT SKIN PARTIALLY REVEALED !

Infants possess a large quantity of an active ingredient that we all desire...

Why do babies have such elastic skin? What is the secret of soft and smooth "baby skin" ? I do not think I am far from the truth when I say that every one of us has already asked ourselves this question at least once. So today, I will reveal a part of the secret.

The first thing to know is that infants' bodies are composed of about 80% water (whereas as adults, we fluctuate between 55% and 60% (1 ) ). But, most importantly, the second essential element is... hyaluronic acid! Yes, you read it correctly, babies' skin contains of an exceptionally large amount of hyaluronic acid.

But how can it be responsible for their chubby-cheeked appearance? By retaining water to make a gel. This works much like a small, dehydrated sponge that retains liquid and balloons until doubling, even tripling, in volume upon contact with water. Hyaluronic acid works the same way and can retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water (2)!

NATURE CREATED HYALURONIC ACID...

A molecule that existed even before Man !

Hyaluronic acid belongs to the family of polysaccharides, meaning complex sugars. Researchers think that it came into existence at the same time as the first bacteria 2 billion years ago. However, it was first identified in animals only in 1934, in a specific area of the eye: the vitreous humor (3). For the anecdote: hyaluronic acid takes its name from it is from this discovery since vitreous in Greek is "hyalos".

As I have just explained, hyaluronic acid is a natural molecule that is present not only in babies but in all humans and animals. It does not disappear as we grow, thankfully! Yet its quantity and quality diminish as we age, but this is something I will talk about later.

Our body produces hyaluronic acid everywhere: in the brain, eyes, umbilical cord, but also in the skin. The skin is in fact the organ that contains the most hyaluronic acid: half of it (about 7 to 8g (4.5)) is found in the epidermis and dermis.

...AND MEN PUT IT IN A TUBE !

When I begin these explanations, people ask me "So where does the hyaluronic acid in cosmetic products come from ? We cannot extract it from Men?" Of course not, please be reassured.

To understand everything, let us go back several years, even decades. At the time, the hyaluronic acid used in cosmetics came from... the rooster comb! For many years, this was its most important source for cosmetics.

But I assure you, not at Novexpert ! We have always been Vegan, even before the term existed. We therefore reject all ingredients of animal origin in our formulas.

THANKS TO BIOTECHNOLOGY!

At Novexpert, we use biotechnologies to obtain a biodegradable hyaluronic acid like that found in our skin. I will explain it in more detail : good bacteria from milk are placed in contact with wheat in a stressful environment, such as extremely high temperatures or high pressure. To protect themselves, bacteria will create, thanks to the sugars found in wheat, a protective shield or envelope consisting of 100% pure hyaluronic acid.

It is this hyaluronic acid that we include in the formulas of our product line. Its composition is similar to that of the hyaluronic acid produced by our body, which will be fully able to use it and break it down. This process is natural and clean, meaning non-polluting. It brings nothing but benefits !

Please note, I am referring to Novexpert's choice to make a natural hyaluronic acid. Some companies choose to modify it after it is made, for example to increase its resistance to oxidation or the time it stays in the body. This results in a synthetic hyaluronic acid. So, if you want to get it right, choose the 100% natural solution we offer at Novexpert !

Promise me to not be jealous of babies after reading this article !

And, on a more serious note, to:

  • Not think of hyaluronic acid as an artificial molecule
  • Choose 100% natural formulas to be sure of the origin of the hyaluronic acid you apply to your skin. To do so, nothing is simpler than clicking HERE to discover or rediscover our product line featuring hyaluronic acid. And to be doubly reassured, find the detailed ingredients list in each of our product sheets.
