IS MEN’S SKIN LIKE WOMEN’S?

Skin is skin, and on this point, men and women are (almost) equal. Granted, men's skin is a little thicker, sometimes more oily in their teens and less wrinkled at 50 (thanks to the menopause!) but that doesn't really make a difference.

Believe me, skincare actives are not going to act differently on your skin if they know you have a Y chromosome or not! So why don't men and women use the same skincare? Well, let me ask you again.

Why did you buy that midnight blue facial with the smell of it filling the bathroom when it's not even opened? Because marketing got to you! Don't worry, it's not your fault and you're not alone. We'll explain how marketers fit you into boxes and of course we'll give you REAL skincare advice with your wife's products ... which will soon become yours!

Men's skin comes from Mars & women's from Venus... Stop, let's come back to Earth!

A skin is a skin. Epidermis, dermis, hypodermis, that's what our skin is made of, it's put in place during embryonic development and the Y chromosome has no say in it.

Ok, ok, let's not be so radical in our comments, there are some differences, but we are (almost) equal in terms of skin. We'll sort out the real from the fake with you.

Men's skin is thicker? True. Between the ages of 20 and 30, men's skin is 25% thicker than women's. But as we age, this difference becomes less pronounced. But the older we get, the more this difference fades, and believe me, the cosmetic ingredients will still penetrate the different layers, not the few extra lines of keratinocytes (skin cells) that will scare them off!

Do men get more acne? True & ... False! In reality, "boys" have more acne, because yes, it is true that in adolescence men have shinier skin and more pimples than girls. This is due to the male sex hormone, testosterone which literally boosts sebum production. But in adulthood it's a different story, luck changes sides, and pimples colonise women's faces. 85% of adult acne sufferers are women. Thanks to hormonal variations due to pregnancy and contraceptives!

Do men have fewer wrinkles? I'd say they have them...later. Indeed, they start with certain advantages in terms of skin ageing: thicker skin, generally more oily and fewer hormonal variations that can reduce the amount of collagen or dry out the skin! Wrinkles therefore appear more slowly but ..surely.

There are small differences, but these are details and keep in mind that a woman can have a man's skin and vice versa. We are all different, our skin is different, and gender is not the most important factor influencing our skin barrier. The active ingredients in skincare products will not turn around or stop working just because your name is Jean-Claude or Anne-Marie!

So you wonder why you each have a shelf full of different skincare products in your bathroom when you could be using the same ones. It's not your fault, read on...

Creating boxes: the (not so) well-kept secret of marketing!

Let's do an exercise together, try to visualise the product I am describing to you: a skincare care product with black or even midnight blue or even emerald green packaging, on which the brand name is written in white or gold and a very strong perfume that escapes you without even needing to get close. What does this make you think of?

... To a men's treatment indeed. The marketing technique is well tried and tested, and over the years it has become part of everyone's imagination. But in the end, why shouldn't men go for products with a pure and natural design?

The objective of marketing departments is threefold: CREATE - OF - CASES. Boxes to put you in, so that you buy three products when you only need one. The logic is simple: why sell one product when the customer is willing to buy two?

The champions of all categories in this field are shower gels: children are entitled to products with bright colours that smell like apples or apricots (not often picked in the fields between us), women use shower gels with sweet notes evoking nature or travel (but believe me you wouldn't like to travel in the heart of their composition...), and men have to put up with products that are always black or midnight blue, that smell very strong and lather a lot of course!(Do you think it's natural, gentlemen, all that foam?)

Skincares are no exception to this rule: on the one hand, skincare for men, on the other, those for women. You have to use different skincare, and beware, gentlemen, if you dare to use your wife's products, you may be able to do two things at once!

At Novexpert, the power belongs to those who create the products and not to those who dress them. In other words, these illogical and unsubstantiated marketing practices are not for us. So, SCOOP: Yes, gentlemen, you can use the same skincare as your wife's! And guess what...you can even share them if you have the same dermatological profiles!

First times are never easy, follow the guide!

If you don't know where to start, don't panic, we can help you.

1st rule for a skincare beginner: a good routine starts with...cleansing! For this we have THE product that will quickly become your favourite : Express Radiant Cleansing Foam. 20 seconds in a row to have a clean and smooth skin, who could resist it? And I'm not talking about its texture, I'll let you discover it for yourself...

Tip : Peeling Night Lotion and Express Blemish Care are other options, also formidable for really inflamed ingrown hairs.

We continue in the same range with Booster Serum with Vitamin C which is already the choice of our male customers, attracted perhaps by the performance poster (25% Vitamin C complex?) or by the word Booster? Here we are, caught in the act of cliché.

Let's stop here (for the moment, you know we have other tips coming up...) and let's just try HERE !
