Double cleansing: good for my skin or not?
IT DEPENDS!
Because before we talk about cleansing, we need to talk about facial impurities! Impurities fall into two groups:
- FANS OF FAT = lipids called lipophiles
e.g. sebum, make-up residues or sun cream.
- WATER ACCROS = hydrophiles
e.g. certain pollutants or dust, sweat.
OIL ATTRACTS OIL AND WATER ATTRACTS WATER!
As you may know, oil attracts oil and water attracts water! So, in theory, double cleansing seems like a good way to get all kinds of impurities off your face, because it combines :
#1 Cleansing with a "greasy" (=lipid) product.
You can then use an oily oil or balm, which is very good.
#2 Cleaning with an aqueous product.
Choose from gel, milk or foam textures.
This technique has been used for hundreds of years by Japanese Geishas, but the sudden need to apply it to all skin types is more of a marketing opportunity: to sell twice as many products.
